SWEET HEARTS : A Heard Museum Senior Session

When I was teaching art at a high school in Plano, one of my coworkers reached out about doing her daughter, Elenor's senior portraits, I was genuinely excited.

We met up at a coffee shop for the planning session. I love the chat before a session, because it gives everyone a chance to talk through ideas before a camera is clicked. It takes helps the actual shoot feel so much more relaxed.

Elenor had a lot she wanted to capture in the photos. She was into poetry, she was thoughtful, a little dreamy, and most importantly she wanted photographs that felt meaningful rather than just a backdrop and a smile.

I offered a few locations that would complement Elenor’s interests and personality like Arbor Hills Nature Preserve. Then her mom mentioned the Heard Museum in McKinney. And here is where it gets really sweet.

The Heard Museum was a place her parents had visited when they were dating. It held a little piece of their story. When she brought that up, we all kind of looked at each other and agreed, that is the spot.

There is something so special about a senior session that connects to the family history. It’s not just a pretty location. It means something.

On the day of the shoot, we started walking the grounds, and the location just kept giving. We stayed in the wide open field for a few shots. Then we followed a path into the woods and found beautiful little pockets of light tucked in between the trees.

Elenor brought a bouquet of flowers to the shoot, and it was a perfect detail to weave through the session. The flowers felt natural amidst the environment, not staged. I thrive on this authentic energy in a session.

Elenor was just wonderful. Honestly one of the sweetest, most humble young women I have had the pleasure of spending an afternoon with.

Curious, thoughtful, genuine. Exactly like her mom. We laughed a lot, talked a lot, and I think the photos show all of that.

SENIOR PORTRAITS IN THE DFW AREA CAN BE UNIQUE. YOUR PICTURES DON’T HAVE TO LOOK LIKE EVERYONE ELSE’S.

Elenor’s session is the perfect example. When a photographer take a little time to think about who your senior actually is, where they come from, what lights them up, you end up with something so much more than a yearbook photo. You end up with a real portrait.

IF YOU ARE LOOKING FOR A SENIOR PHOTOGRAPHER IN MCKINNEY, PLANO, FRISCO, ALLEN, OR ANYWHERE IN THE DALLAS AREA, I WOULD LOVE TO SIT DOWN WITH YOU AND YOUR SENIOR AND HEAR YOUR STORY FIRST, PLEASE REACH OUT.

I’D LOVE TO HELP TELL YOUR STORY IN A WAY THAT FEELS LIKE YOU.
