Branding Photos for a Creative Business: Meet Mallory Hunter
You know the saying, “a jack of all trades?”
That’s Mallory Hunter.
I can’t find something this girl cannot do. I mean, creatively speaking. I’m sure there are probably some things she doesn’t know how to do, but when it comes to design, branding, creativity, and all things visual, this girl knows her stuff.
Actually, you wouldn’t even be reading this blog if it weren’t for her help designing my entire website.
So, thank you, Mallory.
When Mallory left her corporate job as a trend forecaster for a popular fashion brand, she realized she could take all of the things she had been doing for a major company and bring that same creative expertise to small businesses and creative entrepreneurs.
And honestly? I was ecstatic when she asked me to photograph her new branding.
I absolutely love working with creatives, especially other artists and designers. Mallory and I have pretty similar artistic tastes, so I knew this was going to be a fun one.
A Modern Dallas Branding Photoshoot
We decided we wanted a studio setting, but not just your typical white-wall studio. We wanted something more warm artsy modern that reflected Mallory’s style, sophistication, and personality.
So we rented a beautiful loft in downtown Dallas, and it ended up being the perfect backdrop for her personal branding photography session.
Mallory came prepared with all kinds of props, colors, textures, and little details that fit her brand. And because apparently I can’t just take pictures without making everything an experience, I created an entire playlist for the shoot so we could get into the vibe.
There were outfit changes.
There were props.
There was music.
There was a lot of moving things around and saying, “Wait, what if we tried this?”
Getting Comfortable in Front of the Camera
Mallory told me she isn’t someone who is particularly comfortable in front of the camera.
Which, honestly, is probably one of the most common things I hear from people before a branding photoshoot.
and I get it, that’s why I choose to stay behind the camera. But I do have a few tricks up my sleeve to help people feel at ease.
Also, I like to approach every session as a collaboration. I’m going to throw some things out and if it works, great! If not, it might stir some idea in you and we can try that! You get to be a part of the process, not just the model.
Why I Love Photographing Creative Entrepreneurs
One of my favorite things about branding photography for creatives is that we aren't just taking a headshot.
We're creating a visual language for someone's business.
Your photos should feel like you.
They should give potential clients an idea of who you are, what you make, how you work, and what it might feel like to work with you.
For Mallory, that meant creating a collection of personal branding images that felt modern, colorful, creative, and sophisticated while still letting her personality come through.
And I love that we were able to create so much variety in one session.
Different outfits.
Different expressions.
And, of course, there is going to be a round two.
Because apparently we weren't done.
So stay tuned for that.
I can't wait to see what we create next.
And Mallory, thank you for trusting me with your brand. I'm pretty damn excited to see where this next chapter takes you.
