When Haley reached out, for her maternity session, she knew exactly what she wanted. No husband and no distractions.
Just her, her bump, and a cozy, comfy vibe. I've shot countless families, couples, and newborns, but a one on one maternity session with just a mama? This was new for me. And now, I want all maternity sessions to a solo mama, we had a blast!
Haley and I actually see each other almost every year at Friendsgiving or Cinco party our friends throw, so there was already this easy, comfortable energy between us before I even picked up my camera. She came in with a Pinterest board (I love working with other creatives), and she added me to it, where I could add a few of my own ideas.
The concept: cozy, comfy, and a little silly. Think strawberries, coffee, soft textures, and a primary color palette that made the artist in me absolutely lose it. That pop of strawberry red against her pastel outfits? Ridiculous. So good.
We booked South Side Studio in Dallas, which was the perfect backdrop, minimal, beautiful light, and some potted plants. I played some chill vibes music, we talked about pregnancy and husbands and life, and somewhere in the middle of it all, the camera just... disappeared. Haley mentioned she gets nervous in front of the lens, and yeah, I could feel a little of that at the start. But we all do, myself included. I always tell my clients, give it twenty minutes and you’ll relax into it.
I got to play around with on camera flash during this session, which was fun and something I want to keep experimenting with. It gave a few of the images this editorial, intentional quality that aligned perfectly with her creative aesthetic.
I'm genuinely so happy with how these turned out.
