you got a friend in me
You know those friendships where it feels like it was destiny for you to be in each other's lives? Like a sequence of events was happening in the background FOR YEARS for you two to come together?
The friendship between Lee and me is one of those.
Our story really started back in 2004 at Kansas State University at the Architecture, Planning and Design College, where my now-husband, Dan, and Lee first met and became college friends. Life took them in different directions after college, but years later they both found themselves living in Dallas.
When I moved into our neighborhood with Dan to start our family, it turned out Lee lived just a few streets away. Dan often suggested getting together with her and her husband because we both had two young boys around the same age, but we were both in the thick of babyhood, so it never happened. She ended up moving out of the neighborhood and we all kinda forgot about it.
Then fate stepped in again.
On the first day of school for my first born, I looked up and there she was. Even though she no longer lived in the neighborhood, she had chosen to transfer her kids to our elementary school. And somehow, as if the universe wasn't done connecting us, her son and my son ended up in the same Pre-K class, and quickly became best friends. We are now both very involved with building the PTA at our school and see each other weekly at our boys' soccer and basketball games. She’s also a regular in my Cool Art Club.
Lee is one of those “I’m good, your good” kind people. She doesn’t think she is better than anyone, and better yet, inferior to anyone. She is unapologetically herself and in turn allows everyone space to be exactly who they are. So, when I’m in her presence, I can't help but feel at ease and accepting of who I am too.
I'm so incredibly grateful our paths kept crossing until our friendship finally had the chance to grow.
She told me the last time she did professional photos the boys were in diapers, and she was ready to update the family photos. I was absolutely over the moon that she wanted me to capture them. I adore this family so much, and I wanted these photos to feel like them: playful, adventurous, full of laughter, and never taking themselves too seriously.
Also, I'm OBSESSED with Teddy's toothless grin and Bowie's sweet lil cheek dimple.
We explored the Limestone quarry in Frisco, TX, played in the water, laughed a lot. Her husband, Baker even brought along his Camp Snap camera to capture behind-the-scenes moments. I turned that footage into a little Super 8-inspired film for them, and it's one of my favorite parts of the whole session.
The Flukestone Family are truly one of a kind, and I'm so thankful life kept bringing us back together until our friendship finally found its moment.
LOVE YOU FRIEND!!!
xx
